Point of Healing
Stories are the basis for much of life. A story invites you into an experience instead of rattling off a bunch of facts. Stories capture your heart and mind.
Jason’s story of being healed from Leukemia twice, although unique and remarkable, is universal in nature. We are all broken, sick people in one way or another who need a healer. Whether it is physical, spiritual, or emotional healing; we find ourselves all in the same boat. Jason’s story is one where Jesus healed him from Leukemia, but your story is one where Jesus healed you from addiction, asthma, anger, stroke, selfishness, cancer, moralism, or __________ (name it!)
Healing leads us to the Healer, or at least it should. However healing only postpones the inevitable so what is the point? In, John 11:41-42 Jesus teaches on what the point of healing is. The fact that He is healer has already been established, now he answers the ‘what’s the point?’ “So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this on account of the people standing around, that they may believe that you sent me.” The phrase ‘on account of’ shows the point of healing. The point is the people around you. That they will see and believe Jesus as healer of the physical, emotional, and spiritual. This catapults a life of faith in Jesus as healer in all situations, with all hope, and purposed in pointing to Jesus.
All of us are story-formed people. We enjoy story, understand story, inspired by story, and ultimately changed by story. Healing occurs to demonstrate the true author of your story. Like any story, your life is purposed more for the people around reading it than the people in it. We are called to capture people in the story of Jesus.
